Some words from our Artisan Tailor:
When Monika & Nimmi first reached out to me about the production of their pieces, my initial answer was a no. Having worked for many years producing clothing ranges and batches for several start-ups and niche brands, I had concluded this was a world that I’d left behind. Producing multiples of the same item over and over, and being a small atelier trying to fulfil expectations that are often at the pace of much bigger operations was entirely something I found no joy in. I had made a conscious choice to step away, and focus on the art of tailoring in its finest way.
Moving onto speaking with them, it became very clear to me that what brought me no joy also seemed to be the exact reason they had turned toward me. This is what made that no a yes, as their disenchantment was also my own and what was envisioned was a partnership where we all created with joy and love.
What I heard was that they wanted to create pieces that stood the test of time, didn’t lack detail or refinement due to speed and margins. They wanted to learn how their garments could be constructed in the most ethical, sustainable, and luxurious way.
We spoke about every little detail, from the body fit, block, sizes and vanity sizing in the industry. To fabric weights, drapes, to thread thicknesses. There wasn’t one part of the process I felt they didn’t want to hear about because it wasn’t their problem.
Walking through every single style with a fine tooth comb, ironing out (pardon the pun) every single discrepancy until what was in front of us was something that each one of us knew we’d challenged, worked through and completed without any detail left unthought.
That’s what makes Monika and Nimmi’s pieces much more than just another garment off the peg. There’s nothing cookie cutter about them. They are individually made items, one by one, each to completion from a precise layout that ensures absolute best use of fabric. Simultaneously, from pattern matching prints, selecting fusings, linings and interlinings; the garments are as detailed on the inside as on the outside.
With Monika & Nimmi I continually flow into my own craft of artisan tailoring; a craft that is appreciated, valued and respected with utmost care.
